Globe Ready to Block Roblox as PH Ban Deadline Extended

by Joseph Rees

Telecommunications giant Globe Telecom has officially announced its readiness to implement a network-wide blockade of the popular gaming platform Roblox. It also detailed the technical measures it will deploy if the government’s impending ban pushes through.

The statement comes just as the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) officially deferred its nationwide ban ultimatum, moving the deadline to April 10, 2026, to allow Roblox executives to fly into the country for high-level meetings.

How Globe Will Enforce the Ban

In a formal statement released to the public and also sent to BitPinas, Globe affirmed its full support and cooperation with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and the CICC regarding the potential restriction of the gaming platform.

Globe confirmed it will comply with the NTC directive to actively participate in making the online space safe for children, specifically citing the need to protect youth from grave digital harms like Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM).

To execute the ban on devices across the country, Globe detailed the specific network-level barriers it is preparing.

“Globe will continue to coordinate closely with the NTC and the CICC as we perform the necessary filters against links, APIs, and IP addresses into our systems,” the telecommunications provider stated. The company added that it remains vigilant and is “ready to update our technical barriers as necessary based on the discovery of new Roblox-related links to ensure the continued safety of our customers.”

The April 10 Deadline and High-Level Meetings

Globe’s technical preparations are running parallel to a ticking clock.

The CICC recently granted a one-week extension to its original April 3 ultimatum following formal correspondence from Roblox Corporation.

The tech giant expressed a commitment to discuss safety reforms and guaranteed full cooperation with Philippine authorities. As a result, Roblox representatives are scheduled to fly to the Philippines for high-level meetings on April 7, 8, and 9 to present specific, localized technical measures to safeguard its massive Filipino user base.

Exclusive: CICC’s Primary Condition

However, the government is making it clear that a simple dialogue will not be enough to stop Globe and other telcos from pulling the plug next week.

In an exclusive interview with BitPinas, CICC Executive Director, Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso, laid out the state’s non-negotiable conditions, stating that the platform must establish a physical office in the country and fix its systemic safety flaws.

When asked directly by BitPinas what Roblox must do to avoid the ban, Paraiso was blunt: “Come here… to the Philippines. Set up [an] office here.” He emphasized the need for direct, local coordination: “…let us try to work together and make sure that your platform is safe for our Filipino children.”

During the interview, Paraiso detailed the platform’s severe security failures, citing a recent experiment where a local tech editor easily bypassed Roblox’s Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols to register a 7-year-old profile and access mature content. Furthermore, he highlighted that the platform’s in-game messaging is actively being exploited for arms dealing, drug transactions, child pornography, and child abuse recruitment.

The CICC has confirmed that Roblox remains under strict observation. The final decision on whether Globe and other telcos will activate their IP and API filters will depend entirely on whether Roblox can present “verifiable effectiveness” in its safety overhauls during the critical April meetings.
